The Rio range of low energy downlights have been thoroughly researched by the designers with the result that we can offer a one-stop solution in recessed downlights.
This Rio model is the improved designed, available from June 2011, which has a much larger hole and glass front section giving even more light from this unit!
Built-in fire protection technology
At the heart of the Rio design is the integral fire barrier material that, in the event of a fire, seals the ventilation openings and maintains the fire rating of the ceiling. In modern homes, ceilings can be constructed to give 30, 60 or 90 minute fire protection. The Rio has been tested for all 3 ceiling types.
Convenience
Being a one-piece design, no further fire hoods or other devices are required which makes this the easiest and most convenient method of installing downlights in a fire rated ceiling. These fittings have been thoroughly tested for safety and performance and are eminently suitable for the installation methods commonly used in new houses today.
Waterproof
This is the IP65 version of the Rio downlight. It can be used in Zone 1 of a bathroom, which includes shower cubicles etc. You can read more about Bathroom lighting zones in our information section.
Long life, low energy lighting
Employing a compact 10w fluorescent lamp, the Rio range offers low energy lighting in the same small package as the usual halogen fittings. In addition to saving 80% of the electricity used by conventional halogen downlights, the low energy bulb will last for many times longer, with it's massive lamp life of 8,000 hours. It also removes a large amount of the heat that would normally be generated. You do not have to install an additional fire hood.
Better general lighting
The low energy spot bulb has a wider light spread (100 degrees) than most spot lights, which eliminates dark areas of the room as the light is not concentrated into small areas.
