Dimmable LED GU10 6.6W Sun-Star Pro (warm white)
This is a Sun-Star Pro 6w (actually 6.6w) LED GU10 spot bulb from Prolite. It is fully dimmable with warm white light output and is therefore a low energy direct replacement for a 50w halogen bulb - 88% energy saving compared to a 50w halogen lamp.
Pricing
Most dimmable LED spot bulbs are expensive. Cheaper versions are usually just that - cheap. While this product is certainly more expensive than traditional halogen spot bulbs, or even compact fluorescent versions, this is the best value dimmable LED GU10 bulb that we have seen so far.
Don't let the comparatively low price mislead you - we're very pleased indeed to be able to offer such a quality product at such a great price.
Dimming performance
These dimmable LED spot lamps do what they say on the tin. They are dimmable when you connect them to a dimmer switch and can be fully dimmed from almost no light to 100% of their full output.
Prolite claim that the dimming technology here is compatible with the majority of dimming systems available today. We've tried everything we can get our hands on and the only problem we found was that some dimmers have a minimum load, which is more than the 6.6w required by these lamps. The solution is to make sure more than one lamp is used on each dimming circuit.
Build quality
These dimmable LED spot bulbs are not to be confused with inferior brands. Physically these are a solid product, they don't bend or flex - we stood on it with no ill effects.
The solid aluminium fins not only keep the LED chips cool and happy, but are chunky and solid, not flimsy and delicate like some other models.
The front bezel will not be falling off any time soon (we can't even prise it off with screw divers and pliers), and these are the only LED spot bulbs that we know of that have screws holding the black back part onto the aluminium front, instead of just being glued together.
Size and shape
The diameter of these dimmable LEDs is the same as any other standard GU10 spot bulb - 50mm. The length is slightly more than old style halogen lamps. Including the electrical pins, the total length is 60mm. This will not be a problem for the majority of light fittings, but you should check that an extra few mm of length will not cause a problem for you.
Light colour
This is the warm white version of this lamp rated at 3000K. It is also available as a cool white daylight LED dimmable spot bulb (6000K) version.
