Clip on shades attach with a spring loaded clip which hugs the light bulb instead of using a standard shade ring. Some shade clips are suitable candle shaped bulbs whereas others are suited for golf ball lamps. Clip on lampshades are typically used on large chandeliers or small table lamps.
